OMSA joined La Fabrique Circulaire in May 2023 and initial meetings have been held to identify the circular economy project that will be implemented with this Nyon-based company.
OMSA has been working for several years to reduce its carbon footprint. In particular, it has paid particular attention to the materials used in its new production facility in Switzerland. However, it is aware that the major impact of the products it sells lies further up the value chain, notably in the energy used by production plants and blast furnaces, as well as in the origin and transport of raw materials.
OMSA is keen to improve the transparency and traceability of its supply chain, and in particular to gain a better understanding of the proportion of recycled materials in purchased products, as well as their origin. With improved traceability, sustainability can become a criterion for choosing suppliers, alongside traditional criteria such as price and product availability. OMSA's aim is to encourage suppliers who are committed to reducing the carbon footprint of their products, and to promote this commitment to its customers.
The project carried out with La Fabrique Circulaire addressed the issue of transparency in the value chain in a comprehensive way, by:
- Questioning suppliers on the information and certificates they have concerning the products they buy, as well as on possible sustainable alternatives and their room for manoeuvre.
- Developing a tool to evaluate and rank suppliers according to their commitment to social, ethical and environmental responsibility, as well as their purchasing practices.
OMSA is now better able to visualize the major impacts in the value chain and by supplier, making it easier to decide on its procurement choices.
